Expérience fantastique: Melanie recently sold my late parents' house in Wolfville, which was the house where I grew up. It was a difficult sale for me to navigate, both because I live more than 2,000 miles away in New Mexico, but also because the house was in a great state of disrepair after my parents died. Unfortunately, they had continued to in it during their declining years. For that reason, the inside of the house was in an unseemly state of disrepair and chaos. Melanie was very patient about the time it took for me to fly out to Nova Scotia and make lists of the items and furniture I wished to keep, give away, or throw away. She also was extremely compassionate and empathetic about the fact that the sale was emotionally hard for me due to the death of my parents. I agreed with Melanie's suggestion to sell the house and its 1 acre property for sale in "as is" condition, as well as to accept the highest auction bid as the sale price. Unfortunately, I was greatly disappointed by (and rejected) the highest bid because although the house was in disrepair, I was well aware that the property itself on Highland Avenue was valuable due to its location. For that reason, I decided to forgo the auction process and simply list the property for a price that I considered to be fair. Not long after I made that decision, a developer made an offer that was $50,000 higher than the highest auction bid. I told Melanie that I was very happy with the new offer, even though it was $20,000 below my asking price. She suggested that I counter with my asking price of $370,000. To my delight and surprise, the buyer immediately agreed to my counter offer! Melanie carefully explained that the closing window would be longer with a developer than a regular home buyer. The reason for this is because developers have to ensure that the ways in which they transform a non-commercial property into a commercial one are acceptable to the town. Therefore, there were no surprises in store for me re: the closing window. Added to that, I was so pleased with the buyer's honesty and good faith that I was willing to wait, especially because he had agreed to the price I wanted. During the closing interim, Melanie found an agency that emptied the house of its remaining furniture, which was a big help. She was able to negotiate a price with them that I could afford, which I greatly appreciated. My caretaker had recommended Melanie as "the best realtor" he had "ever worked with" when I let him know that I intended to sell the house. I am incredibly grateful to him for recommending Melanie. Her extreme professionalism, great communication skills and understanding of the local real estate market easily earn her 5 stars from me!

Every time I see a new home listed by Melanie, I can’t help but shake my head in disbelief. The staging looks like a thrift store threw up in a high-end property. It does nothing to highlight the home’s quality and often makes me want to run in the opposite direction. These homes deserve staging that actually impresses, not this confusing mismatch of “decor" if you can even call it that! Update in response to the owner’s reply: To clarify, my comments relate to the staging and presentation of publicly listed properties, which form part of the marketing intended to engage prospective buyers. As these listings are presented to the general public, feedback is not limited to direct clients. Public perception is a key component of how effectively a property is showcased. My observations are based solely on those publicly available listings. In my view, the staging in several instances does not align with the quality of the homes and may not present them as effectively as it could. Given that these listings are designed to be evaluated by the broader market, perspectives from that audience are a relevant part of how such marketing is assessed. The suggestion that only direct clients can provide relevant feedback is inconsistent with the public nature of real estate marketing and how it is evaluated in practice.

We asked that she show us quite a few houses, and although discouraging, she was very honest(in a very professional way) about how they were impractical given our situation. After quite a few viewings, she found us our perfect home! It was difficult for us to gauge, since we were viewing through facetime(which doesn’t exactly give you the same perspective as an in person viewing). You could tell when we found the one because Melanie was equally excited about it! She was extremely quick about getting all the paperwork done for an offer and advising us well about the market in the area.
